Attention Expert Scrappers! I need your help. I've been noticing that some of your layouts have that nice soft and antique look going on. I blends the textures and colors so well. How do you accomplish that? And what tools do I need to get that look? I've tried sponge painting, but it doesn't have the same effect, so I know that's not it. Please share your expertise. Thanks! __________________ I'm a blogger! Come by and visit sometime.

Hi Adriann! Is there an example or 2 from the Roots Scrapbooking Gallery that we can see exactly what the technic is that you are referring too? If so, tell us so we can be of better help. (however, I am not an expert scrapper ). Sounds like inking or chalking...but would know better with an example. __________________

Reply with quote | #3 | "Brothers" by Tanisha Renee is the best example I can see. For the softness "The Day After Christmas and Tanisha Renee," Also by Tanisha Renee. The pages look so soft and well blended.Ok you may not be an expert, but you do have a good eye and sense of color balance with your pages. And I am new to the design theme with scrapping. Thanks for your input. __________________ I'm a blogger! Come by and visit sometime.

sorry Adriann, I did not mean to down play your question by saying I am not a expert, I appreciate your question, but being the first to respond, I know others may have better details. I too like the Tanisha Renee's examples that you have given and will allow her to respond to her individual technic's she has used. And while we are on the subject of Tanisha Renee (Hey girl, hope you are feeling better ), I would like to point out my favorites are.........."cold" layout and "Beautiful". I must admit, my husband after seeing her "cold" layout, said I was no longer his favorite scrapbook designer ( ) I ain't mad at him though... Her work is great! __________________

Tajuana, I didn't take what you said as down playing my question. I took it as you being modest and I honestly think you have an excellent eye for design and space. That's too funny about your husband... . So what's the inking and chalking you were talking about earlier. How would I do that? I am truly inspired by everyone's work. It's all so beautiful and looks like it belongs in a magazine. Plus everyone has their own individual style. Tajuana, sorry I missed being online with you. I was scrapping of course. I will await Tanisha's response. Tanisha-- I pray you have some good news when we hear from you again.
Blessings, Adriann Need to get some sleep. __________________ I'm a blogger! Come by and visit sometime.

Thanks for the compliment Adriann. You should see that wedding layout in person. It looks so much better. Inking is a technique used to create a aged or weathered effect. Using a ink pad (usually located in stores with the rubber stamping supplies) begin dabbing the edges of your paper, mats, photos, tags...etc...onto the ink pad turning it in various directions. Or you could hold your paper in one hand and rub/brush the ink pad along the edges. This technique softens the edges and often times helps the flow of all the elements on your page. __________________

Thanks for the tip. I guess I'll be heading over to Hobby Lobby to buy some ink pads. They had a bunch on sale, but I didn't know what they were used for. I can't wait to try it out. __________________ I'm a blogger! Come by and visit sometime.

Tajuana, Your technique worked. This is my favorite layout thus far. I love how everything blends together. I also tried out the doodle genie to make the patterns on the lo. I really like this one. Attached Images:

Thanks! I especially like this lo. And yes, I'm trying new things. I'm even venturing off into cards. My first one didn't turn out so well, but I will keep trying. I would love to send out handmade cards to family and friends, instead of the standard Hallmark. __________________ I'm a blogger! Come by and visit sometime.

I think I would enjoy card making also, but have not found the time to get around to it just yet......maybe this Christmas. I was going to ask you if your Morehouse picture was going to be one of your layouts for your heritage album, but I believe you said that album will be for your mother's side of the family.
